Extractions from the SADCO database

Examples of what can be extracted from the SADCO database:

Salinity Sections

Port Edward

The shallow layer of higher salinity > 35.0 overlays a deep layer of water < 35.0.

The rise of the isohalines (equal salinity) between the coast and about 100-150 km offshore coincides with the presence of the Agulhas Current.

Port Elizabth

The rise of the isohalines (= position of the Agulhas Current ) is located between 50 and 150 km.

Cape Agulhas

The high-salinity water in the top right is related to the Agulhas Current Retroflection.

The rise of the isohalines (equal salinity) between the coast and about 100-150 km offshore coincides with the presence of the Agulhas Current.

A large part of the area between South Africa and Antarctica is characterised by water salinity between 34.6 and 34.8.
